Email Specials from February 2001

Report from the NAMM show:

1) Rickenbacker: For the true Beatle nuts, Rickenbacker has created exact duplicates of John Lennon's two 325s and George's 360/12. They've been making Vintage Reissues of these guitars for years, and they were very close, but they weren't EXACTLY accurate. The new models, 325C58, 325C64, and 360/12C63 won't be available for at least 5 months, and the prices will be in the $3,000 range (list price). In the meantime Rickenbacker has discontinued the other reissues, the 325V59, 325V63, and the 360/12V64. We have one of each left. If you have any Rickenbacker questions, call Carl at 412-431-0700.

2) Hofner: We get emails and calls every day about Hofner basses, and there's no way to keep up with the demand. Especially when Hofner hardly makes any. We talked to them at the show and they explained that they only have 3 little old German men making the basses, and last year Dieter was sick for 2 months I guess that explains it. They promised to hire another guy, and work harder. We have lots of Hofner basses on order. Sometime over the next 3 months they'll arrive. Any questions: call Carl

3) Gretsch: We're still up in the air with Gretsch. Once again, we looked at them at the show, and once again, we are considering carrying the line. The issues are: accuracy, price, and their import-nature. Unfortunately, we just can't find vintage Gretsches. So the new Japanese ones may fall into the better-than-nothing category. I'll keep you updated.

4) Martin: We love these people. We went to the Dealer Dinner and had good food and drink. We've sold lots and lots of Martins, so we ordered lots more.

5) Fender: We're not really familiar with those Johnson and Line 6 amps. We know they have little screens on them and probably a little computer, and they "sound" like lots of different amps. Well, Fender is entering the field with their new Cyber Twin. They made a BIG deal about the fact that it's different from those other guys. We noticed that it has a little screen on it, probably a little computer, and it "sounds" like lots of different amps. We just got one in today, so we'll let you know, once we figure it out.

6) Danelectro: Hearsay and Innuendo are Danelectro's guitars-with-built-in-effects. New for this year are 12-string and Baritone versions of those models. In honor of the NAMM show we're making the 12-strings this week's special.

See you soon,
Carl

PPS: Every month thousands of people from all over the world look at our web site, even from some countries I've never heard of! Yesterday, I was looking at the local CDs that we sell here in the store, and I thought "Hey we should show these to the rest of the world." So we've listed the Pittsburgh-band CDs on our web site.

Here's the link.

It makes me proud to know that we can improve the quality of life in Tobago by giving those folks a chance to hear The Ultimatics!
