About the Author:
John Lennon once said "Sam
Leach was the pulse of Merseybeat. What he did the rest copied."
Sam Leach was one of the most
prominent promoters of Merseybeat throughout its early days.
He presented shows in Liverpool clubs, cellars, and ballrooms;
shows that introduced the bands of Merseybeat scene to an eagerly
awaiting world.
From the Foreword:
"...I was privileged to partake in an experience beyond
price. I was on the inside. The Beatles were my friends. I sat
with the boys when the crowds had gone home. We drank together,
traveled together and shared each other's dreams and aspirations.
They were a part of my life when nobody outside the city had
heard of them....
So this is my story. In it
I recall the time I spent with the Beatles and the other lads
of the Merseybeat scene in those manic days long ago... I have
buried some myths and sullied some reputations including my own,
but this is the truth. This is the way it was.
This was 'The Rocking City.'"
